It is well known that similar origin, background and mentality are important factors that make people closer, more cooperative and friendly. Society of Euro-American Medical Physicists (SEAMP) is a newly created international organization that unites primarily American physicists from Europe and former Soviet Union. However, SEAMP is open for any healthcare professional in radiation therapy, diagnostics, nuclear medicine and related fields regardless of the country of origin. Now we established seven committees: executive, finance, science, radiation therapy, public relations and quality assurance. The roles, responsibilities and current activities of each committee are described at a separate page. SEAMP has branches in Canada, Russia, Israel, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland and would be happy to create new ones. The representatives of other countries are very welcome.

The mission of SEAMP is to advance the level of clinical service, development of new techniques and technologies, and practical effectiveness of scientific research by encouraging collaboration of medical physicists and related health care providers of primarily European origin. Our purposes:

  • Encourage exchange of experience, scientific and technical information.
  • Promote collaborative research projects and publication of the results.
  • Support rapid applications of new technologies and methods into clinical practice.
  • Identify gaps in training of medical physicists in developing countries and develop educational materials.
  • Promote professional and clinical training of medical physicists.
  • Contribute to professional development and certification of medical physicists.
  • Organize workshops and conferences on medical physics topics.

You do not need to pay fee to become a member of SEAMP. You are welcome to become a full member if you are a medical physicist, working in medical center, hospital or stand alone clinic, or with a company producing or distributing medical devices, in particular for radiation therapy, diagnostics or nuclear medicine. You can be a radiation oncologist, radiologist or physician practicing or doing research in related fields, dosimetrist or technologist. If you are a student or health care professional in the other field you can be an associate member. Companies and institutions are welcome to become corporate members but need to pay a certain fee for the opportunity to advertise their products and services at SEAMP web site.

SEAMP may give a lot of opportunities to its members to play a chosen role in any kind of professional activity. It can be helpful for young physicist to gain communication and interpersonal skills, show their work, get recommendations and support for professional training, ABR certification and promotion. SEAMP may help to senior physicists to find assistants, obtain grants for scientific research, publications, to carry out maintenance of certification requirements and cooperate with colleagues and other organizations. Different companies, developers and vendors from the USA, Europe and probably other countries (we have no restrictions) as corporate SEAMP members can support research projects and educational activity that will promote their products. Our Society will provide a forum for the exchange of information and discussion of new ideas. There are different suggestions about possible activity of our Society, but any of us can obtain additional network, resources for many kinds of endeavors, good professional advice and new friends in the USA and abroad.
